_windows 10 update bypass services.txt (2.8 KB)
Another Windows Update Bypass for Windows 10 and perhaps Windows 11.
"Follow these steps to stop Windows 10 updates:
Fire up the Run command ( Win + R ). Type in “services. msc” and hit Enter.
1. Select the Windows Update service from the Services list.
2. In the right column look for 'Windows Update' then highlight it
3. Right click, then Left click Properties
4. In the box that says above it 'Startup Type'. Its defaulted to manual.
5. Go to the down arrow and click 'Disabled'.
6. click the apply button and close it off, if it hasnt already.
Can use this, but if the screen isnt set up with i believe 3 columns, and have not got the 'general' tab. There is the problem.
if you do use the 2 steps below, if you want. I personally prefer the other one above.
2. Click on the “General” tab and change the “Startup Type” to “Disabled”.
3. Restart your machine" i originally thought to stop the service, but this may be a better idea... we will see..
More Info:
It tells you to restart the machine. I dont recommend that idea, i want to shutdown so im sure the change has been done and
into the settings and hopefully a restore point. Not that i think they work anymore, but its the safest bet it will hold the changes better.
Changes you will see, off the top, when you do the shutdown, you will see new options, compared to if you had the updates before and all you had in it was 'Update and Restart' or 'Update and Shutdown'. You will see you still have it, but you now have 2 other options, Restart then Shutdown. In this instance, or any other instance that thinks it requires an update, you now have the option to just restart or shutdown without the update being used.
This method, to my knowledge hasnt been completely proven it works, so cross fingers and toes, that it continues to stop updates from happening anymore on Windows 10. No idea if these methods work on Windows 11.
One thing is obvious though, we dont have the option of not installing something in updates, like we did with Windows 7 and down. So, we are literally putting in bloatware or most likely unusable crap on our machines, without our permission. So, it best work. Another test is, will these changes hold, only time will tell that, and that will be either for the notification of holding back an update, if it doesnt notify its time to update, then assumption can be made its working. The other test, is check your power from the windows icon.. if it still has both Update Restart/Shutdown and Restart/Shutdown in that list, its working, if we pass that 7 days, does it stop that update stuff in the power stuff or not.. which, if given certain people will click on anything, and it could spell trouble in the long term... again testing and observation means everything here...
