Windows 10, problems with sound volume:
In win 10, the icon sound on the taskbar, sometimes doesnt work.
Generally when working, just go to the icon. Got by your own preferrances, maybe the type of sound card (Sound Blaster) and volume (0 to 100%). If its 0, chances are there is a red x through the speaker. If thats the case, by right clicking the sound icon, just up your volume by either way of the mouse wheel. The other is a left click, for all the sound card options.
When this doesnt work, right/left clicks, as above, there is a easy fix, instead of going through all your sound options. Its by the TASK MANAGER.
How to get the task manager.. 2 ways.
1) Search for 'task manager' and can Run as Administrator, if need be here.
2) On your desktop, your taskbar, left click and right click 'task manager'.
Quick Options here, to work for you. Options: check off 'Minimize on Use' and View: check off 'Group by Type'. Also, if it shows, 'more details' at the bottom, it will set the whole thing up where you can see all. You will notice columns too. This is up to you how it should look, i have it this way, left to right Name, Status, CPU, Memory, Disk, GPU, Network, Power Usage, Power Usage Trend, GPU engine. Can move this whereever you want and resize the columns as well, i use it in minimize option. Also a quirk here, if for any reason, you do something that you didnt like, you can close and restart it. Should return to normal with the above, view info.
The Fix
1) Task Manager is up, look down the list for 'Windows Explorer'. When you find it, left click, 'end process'.
This gives a blank black screen, its ok, and Task Manager should still be running.
2) Go to top, click on File, then 'Run New Task', in that box, type 'explorer', then enter.
This should return your desktop as it was, and now to check the sound icon, it should now be working...
Job Done... close off all apps, maybe do a cleaner, and enjoy.
There is no data, as to why this happens, but it does, and its not just one or two things doing it either, so, instead of probably 20 minutes and up fighting with your sound options, this is the quick fix, that has worked always for me.
