Nintendo DS Lite touchscreen replacement
Difficulty: Medium
Time: 1 hour
Tools needed:
1. 00 Phillips Screwdriver
2. Spudger
3. Electronics mini opening tool
4. Tri-point Y1 screwdriver
Most dedicated electronics stores will have all the tools you need.
What is needed:
New bottom touch screen
Steps:
1. Open the battery compartment using the Phillips screwdriver and remove the battery using your spudger.
2. Grab your spudger and remove the two rubber feet on the bottom of the DS.
3. With the DS still flipped over it's time to remove the screws. The top 3 are all Phillips so remove them and place them where you won't lose them. The two left screws are Tri-point so remove them and place them with the others. The two right screws are Tri-point and Phillips, the last screw is in the battery compartment which is Phillips.
4. Remove the Gameboy advance dust cover and carefully start separating the bottom case with the flat part of your spudger, remove the case and put it aside.
5. Now carefully remove the top left and right triggers, be careful as they sit loose and aren't screwed down and can come apart if removed too quickly. Put them aside in a safe place.
6. Now remove the bottom screen ribbon by using the flat part of the spudger and carefully lift up the black ribbon lock that's to the left of the DS game cartridge port.
7. Remove the two Phillips screws on the left and right sides of the board.
8. Open the DS lid and carefully push up with your finger to move the screen away from the case.
9. Lay the board with the screen attached so both sides of the board are accessible.
10. Using your spudger, find the cable attached to the screen and push the ribbon lock up so the ribbon cable can be removed.
And that's it, the old screen is now removed.
To install the new screen all you have to do is follow the above steps in reverse, and hopefully you haven't lost any screws.
